IT Systems Engineer

Summary
The IT Systems Engineer is a motivated and technically skilled individual with expertise in enterprise infrastructure, cloud services, and security. This individual will partner closely with the Technical Manager to manage and improve on-premises and cloud environments, including Active Directory, PKI, VMware, Azure, and AWS. Success in this role requires the ability to handle advanced system engineering tasks, support business-critical infrastructure, and adapt quickly to emerging technologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer and optimize AWS and Azure environments, ensuring secure, resilient, and efficient operation.
- Manage Microsoft Active Directory, including DNS, DHCP, GPO, and on-premises PKI certificate services.
- Configure and maintain enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware) and storage systems (SAN/NAS).
- Configure and support Fortinet firewalls, VPNs, and SD-WAN for secure and reliable connectivity.
- Implement, monitor, and improve backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies using Veeam and related tools.
- Administer and monitor Microsoft 365 / Entra ID tenant for identity, collaboration, and security services.
- Utilize system and network monitoring tools to analyze performance, maintain uptime, and identify trends or issues.
- Maintain and improve site replication locally and over WAN.
- Create and maintain accurate system documentation, diagrams, and runbooks for infrastructure components.
- Provide Tier 3 technical support for escalated issues across servers, networks, cloud services, and applications.
- Support the VoIP/telecom environment, including configuration and maintenance of phone systems.
- Perform periodic system upgrades, patching, and hardening to ensure compliance and reduce vulnerabilities.

To fulfill the demands of this service-oriented department, the individual must be self-motivated, highly dependable, flexible, action-oriented and able to work occasional overtime on nights and weekends as necessary.
All employees are expected to participate in catastrophic events.
Skills Required
- Extensive knowledge of cloud technologies with hands-on experience in AWS and Azure.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Server, Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DHCP, and GPO.
- Strong knowledge of PKI architecture, certificate lifecycle management, and on-premises CA operations.
- Hands-on administration with VMware, Fortinet, Veeam, and Microsoft 365.
- Knowledge of core networking: routing, switching, wireless, VLANs, SIP/VoIP, and firewalls.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's (Preferred, Equivalent professional experience will be considered)
- 7+ years of related network and systems experience
- VMWare, AWS, Azure, Microsoft certifications and equivalent professional certifications preferred
- Experience with network administration skills including security, back-up and recovery, and capacity planning
- Extensive experience with Microsoft server products, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange Server, SQL Server
- Hands-on experience configuring network switches and routers
- Practical experience with VOIP system administration
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This is an on-site position with hybrid arrangements available in the future.
While performing this job, the employee is required to see, sit, stand, walk, be flexible enough to access tight spaces such as under desks and behind office furniture, talk, listen, type, and lift heavy objects related to computer equipment, such as monitors weighing as much as 50 lbs.
