Claims Assistant I

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assist in providing excellent customer service to members, agents, claims staff, external customers through prompt response to verbal and written inquiries and courteous and professional behavior.
- Receives new claim reports via fax, telephone or mail.Process the set up and distribution of a new claim to the appropriate technician.
- Processes form letters, including claim acknowledgements, police report requests, etc.
- Processes incoming mail and faxes and claim payments.
- Answers telephone inquiry calls, handles those within authority, routes others to claims staff as appropriate.
- Maintain and administer Service Express Claims processing.
- Act as Liaison between Claims Department and bank for check inquiry/stop payments.
- Handle Glass and Towing Claims.
- Assist other functional areas with administrative assistance as necessary.
- All other duties that may be deemed necessary.
- Assist Management in systems training for new employees. Mentor new Claims Assistants.
- All employees are required to participate in catastrophic events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have technical and educational background and/or transferable skills from another industry or profession that will enable individual to complete the duties required. This job requires the employee to update skills to keep abreast of changing technology as well as a basic understanding of the Insurance industry.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High School graduate or equivalent. Prior work experience in a customer service or administrative environment preferred.
- Basic typing skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel or similar products.
- Good organizational, record keeping and information processing skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with Company personnel as well as Agents, Insureds and Claimants.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Competent in reading, writing and understanding technical and administrative material. Use courteous and professional speech and grammar.
MATHEMETICAL SKILLS
Basic math skills to include calculating percentages and averages.
REASONING ABILITY
Must understand and execute instructions, complete and document tasks accurately and in a timely fashion. Perform routine tasks with minimal supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job is done in an office environment. May be asked to accompany a member of the Claims Staff to visit Agents, Vendors or for an onsite claim inspection to assist in enhancing relationships and as part of ongoing training.
