Bodily Injury Specialist

Summary
Investigates, evaluates and settles moderate to severe personal lines automobile 1st and/or 3rd party claims. This includes handling third-party bodily injury (BI) claims by performing the essential duties listed below, with or without the assistance of outside vendors or management direction. May involve multiple lines of coverage and/or litigated files.
Essential Duties
- Provide excellent customer service to agents, insureds, and third parties through prompt contact, courteous and professional behavior, and timely responses to verbal and written inquiries.
- Conduct thorough and impartial investigations and evaluations that result in prompt, fair settlements. Keep management, agents, insureds, and claimants informed of claim status.
- Determine the need for outside vendor assistance and manage their involvement throughout the claims process.
- Maintain accurate, complete claim files that comply with best practices and statutory requirements, including appropriate and timely reserving.
- Utilize the diary management system to ensure timely handling of all claims.
- Set and update reserves as new information becomes available.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May be responsible for training less experienced staff.
Qualifications
Must possess a technical and educational background and/or transferable skills from another industry or profession that enable the individual to complete the required duties.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree and/or 4 years of experience in the Insurance industry or a related technical field. 5-10 years of experience handling bodily injury and litigation claims is required. Basic typing skills are essential. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and related software is helpful.
This role requires continuous skill development to stay current with changing policy forms, laws, and statutory regulations.
Language Skills
- Must be able to read, analyze, and understand legal and technical reports and related documents.
- Must be able to communicate decisions and negotiate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Strong written communication skills are required to produce persuasive and professional reports and correspondence.
- Must speak clearly and politely, using proper grammar and terminology familiar to the general public.
- Some knowledge of legal and technical terms is necessary.
Mathematical Skills
Must possess math skills sufficient to prepare and evaluate damage estimates and calculate depreciation and liability percentages.
Reasoning Ability
- Must be able to gather information, establish facts, and evaluate complex data to determine coverage, liability, and damages.
- Must apply applicable laws, contractual terms, and statutory requirements in the decision-making process.

- The employee must be able to sit, talk, see, and hear. Frequent use of hands for typing, data entry, and handling documents is required.

Work Environment
- Remote work may be available after a 90-day introductory period.
